Thermally Conductive Gel

PAKCOOL®

    基本性能:

  • High thermal conductivity, low thermal resistance, low stress.

  • Viscous, excellent thixotropy, non-flowing, wetting and sticky with the contact surface.

  • Extrudable with dispensing machine.

  • No curing is needed. No deformation without exerting pressure, good vibration resistance and convenient for rework.

  • Excellent high&low temperature resistance, weather fastness, aging resistance and electrical insulation.

  • UL94 V-0 and RoHS certified.

    应用:

  • No curing is needed. Used in the interface between components and heat sink to fill in the gaps with different size and irregular shapes. Fixture is required for installation.

Operating Guide for PAKCOOL® Thermally Conductive Gel

Application Process
1. Preparation and Storage Before Use:
This product series can be stored at room temperature for up to 12 months. Storage methods vary depending on the packaging:

For barrel-packaged products: Upon opening, if a clear oily substance is observed, use a stirring rod to mix thoroughly before use. Ensure the top of the stirring rod touches the bottom of the container to achieve uniform consistency in the material. If the surface appears normal, the product can be used directly.
For tube-packaged products, such as the 55mL and 330mL sizes, the packaging is sealed, which prevents stirring like pail-packaged products. Therefore, it is recommended to use these products as soon as possible, ideally within 3 months and no longer than 6 months after opening. Upon removal from storage, install directly into a dispensing machine or caulking gun for use. If the product will not be used for an extended period, it is advisable to store it flat at temperatures below 0°C to minimize the chance of oil separation. Prior to use, warm the product for at least 2 hours at 25°C; adjust the warming time based on the product's quantity and size. A convection oven with good airflow is ideal for even and efficient warming. Once warmed, install the product in the dispensing machine for normal use.
2. Application Method and Process:
This series of products is used between heating elements and heat sinks. The appropriate application thickness should be determined based on the size of the gap. While the products maintain good vibration resistance with a gap thickness of 1.5mm, it is recommended to apply the thinnest possible layer to ensure the interface gaps are fully filled. The thinner the application, the lower the thermal resistance at the same thermal conductivity, thus enhancing the heat transfer effectiveness. When adhering interfaces, try to maintain an adequate amount of adhesive material, minimizing extrusion of the adhesive. Any excess adhesive that does extrude should be scraped off to avoid waste and potential impact on oil migration.

Automated Dispensing Process: Before dispensing, ensure that air or piston pressure is maintained at ≤0.6 MPa. It is crucial to check both interfaces for impurities such as dust that could compromise thermal conductivity. Use alcohol to clean any dust from the surfaces. Set dispensing pressure and timing parameters to control the amount of adhesive extruded onto the heating or cooling surface. The amount of adhesive should be approximately 1 to 1.5 times the theoretical value, which is calculated based on the contact surface size, gap thickness, and adhesive density. After dispensing, immediately press together the cooling or heating surface. Since this series of products does not possess inherent adhesive strength and is reworkable, the assembled components must be secured with a mechanical fixation, such as screws or an additional adhesive, after alignment.
Manual Application: For barrel-packaged products, use a plastic spatula or wear a finger cot to apply an appropriate amount of the product to the heating surface (or cooling surface). Press and fix it in place as needed.
3. For Unused Cartridge Products:
For any unused tube products, it is recommended to remove them from the dispensing machine and tighten the outlet cap for storage. If the cartridge needs to be stored in the dispensing machine, ensure that the air pressure or piston pressure is released after removal. For barrel-packaged products, make sure to close the lid promptly after use to ensure proper storage.

Precautions

  • 1. Surface Treatment for Oil-Absorbent Materials: If the material of the device being coated has high oil absorption, it can cause the adhesive to thicken and dry significantly. Therefore, it is necessary to treat these surfaces to make them non-oil-absorbing or apply a coating of our single-component adhesive for oil-blocking treatment. The material can generally be considered non-oil-absorbing if there is no significant change in the adhesive after 24 hours at room temperature.
  • 2. Canned Products: If oil separation is observed on the surface of the product before use, it needs to be stirred thoroughly before application.
  • 3. Tube Products: Cartridge products cannot be stirred and should be used as soon as possible. Storing these products at low temperatures can enhance their storage stability. Simply warm them to room temperature before use.
